Although this older boiler was generally in good condition, it had one really serious fault
If the burner gasket on your boiler start to fail it can have serious implications. Basically noxious substances will be escaping into your home. These 'products of combustion' are really dangerous.
In this case a repair was offered and priced up but after a discussion where we weighed up the age of the boiler and the cost of repair, along with the chances of something else going wrong, we reached the conclusion that it would be better to replace the boiler.
It's a sensible decision given that the old boiler had to be decommissioned immediately.
If you suspect a problem with your boiler, stop using it immediately. If you can smell gas call the National Gas Emergency Service (0800 111 999).
