You should have your boiler serviced by a gas safe engineer once a year, not just for safety reasons...

The most important reason to have your boiler serviced regularly is to ensure your home is protected from the risk of fire or gas leaks. Faulty boilers can also lead to the production of carbon monoxide, an odourless and poisonous gas, which is extremely hazardous to human health.
What I also explain to many customers is the money saving aspect of getting your boiler serviced. This materialises in many ways...
Firstly your boiler will run more efficiently after a service, as I check that the boiler isn't 'running too hot'. You don't want your boiler running any hotter than it needs to be or you will be wasting gas.
Regular boiler servicing will prolong the life of your boiler, stopping small problems building up to be major issues.
During a service I'll check for both gas and water leaks, both of which could lead to very expensive consequences if not detected early.
If you boiler is constantly switching on and off or if it's becoming noisy you should contact a gas safe engineer immediately but even if your boiler seems to be functioning normally, you really should be getting it serviced once a year.
